FAQs

Common questions across all our tours. Most answers apply to every itinerary - a couple of things (spice level, physical demand, the cities you start and end in) differ between the Southwest and Guangdong tours, so we've broken those out into their own sections below.

General

Applies to every tour.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality. China currently has a list of countries that can enter visa-free for up to 30 days. If your country isn't on that list, you'll need to apply for a tourist visa through your local Chinese embassy or visa centre. Processing usually takes around a week, but requirements vary by country - so it's important to check visa rules before booking.

Southwest Tour

Itinerary-specific
This trip covers both Sichuan and Guizhou food, so yes, you'll see spice. Not everything is spicy though, and heat can usually be adjusted. You're never forced to eat anything, just come open-minded.

Guangdong Tour

Itinerary-specific
Not spicy at all. Unlike Sichuan and Guizhou, Guangdong cuisine is the opposite end of the Chinese food spectrum. Cantonese, Hakka and Chaoshan cooking are all about freshness, subtle seasoning, and letting the natural flavour of the ingredient shine.
